Interior minister inaugurates 60 km concrete wall on Iraq-Syria border

BAGHDAD– Iraqi Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari inaugurated a 60-kilometer concrete wall along the Iraqi-Syrian border on Thursday, complementing the previously existing wall, bringing the total length covered by the wall to 200 kilometers along the border in the Turayfawi area, south of Rabia district in Nineveh province.

The Minister of Interior, Mr. Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, continues his field tour within Nineveh governorate and its surrounding areas, accompanied by a number of commanders and officers. Aimed at enhancing border security, he inaugurated today, Thursday, a 60-kilometer concrete wall along the Iraqi-Syrian border, in addition to the previously existing wall, bringing the total length covered by the wall to 200 kilometers along the border in the Turayfawi area, south of Rabia district in Nineveh province.

Additionally, the Minister of Interior inaugurated the headquarters of the fourth regiment in the seventh border brigade, part of the newly established command of the sixth border region. He also visited the first commando regiment of the commando brigade under the command of the border forces.

On the sidelines of this visit, the Minister met with several officers and personnel, listened to their needs and requests, and reviewed the key tasks they are performing within their area of responsibility. The Minister emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to secure Iraq’s borders with all neighboring countries, preventing any attempts to breach them, and making optimal use of modern devices to enhance security along the border strip.
