Locals in Najaf hand over archaeological artifacts to police

NAJAF, September 21 — Antiquities police in Najaf announced on Wednesday the discovery and requisition of 64 archaeological artifacts, turned in to authorities by local citizens.

In a statement received by 964, the police stated:

In an effort to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of the country, the Directorate of Antiquities and Heritage Protection Police in Najaf Al-Ashraf, in cooperation with the Inspectorate of Antiquities and Heritage of the governorate, discovered 64 archaeological artifacts. A patrol from the aforementioned department, in accordance with Law No. 55 of 2002, received and documented these artifacts from citizens, totaling 64 pieces.”
