Short circuit blamed

Three siblings die in Kirkuk house fire

KIRKUK — Three children lost their lives in a house fire in the Panja Ali neighborhood of Kirkuk late Saturday afternoon, with authorities suspecting an electrical short circuit as the cause.

Saman Yaba, spokesperson for the Kirkuk Health Department, confirmed to 964media that the bodies of the three siblings were transferred to the Kirkuk Forensic Medicine Department. “The parents of the children are employees of a health department in Kirkuk,” Yaba added.

Brigadier General Luqman Shukur, head of Kirkuk’s Civil Defense Department, told 964media that the children “died due to severe smoke inhalation from the fire.”

The parents were not at home at the time of the incident.

The victims, two girls and a boy, were 3, 8, and 13 years old.
