New industrial city and asphalt plant launched in Khor Al-Zubair

BASRA – The Basra Investment Commission has launched two new investment initiatives in Khor Al-Zubair, reinforcing the city’s status as a vital industrial hub. Alaa Abdul Hussein, Chairman of the Commission, officially inaugurated an advanced industrial city and a modern asphalt plant, with the projects aimed at bolstering Iraq’s infrastructure capabilities.

Speaking to 964media, Abdul Hussein underscored the Commission’s collaboration with the federal government to advance the national development program, particularly focusing on enhancing the industrial sector.

The first project, a fire-resistant automated sandwich panel factory, is the first of its kind in Iraq. This facility, costing $7.8 million, spans 20 dunams and has an annual production capacity of 30 million square meters.

The second initiative involves a fully integrated industrial city, which includes three high-capacity asphalt plants, each with a production capability of 360 tons per hour. Additionally, the city houses a precast concrete plant and an interlock factory, which produces paving stones for roads and pathways. “All factories within the industrial city utilize state-of-the-art German machinery and fourth-generation robotics, operating independently of human input,” Abdul Hussein explained. The total investment for this expansive project surpasses 15 billion Iraqi dinars, covering 40 dunams.
