Koya park falls into disrepair due to lack of services

KOYA — Pshwi Ewaran Park, once a thriving recreational spot in the Koya district of Erbil since the early 2000s, has deteriorated due to neglect. The park, formerly bustling with activities and lush greenery, now lies in ruins, overtaken by broken equipment and garbage.

Mohammad Mirhaj, head of the Koya municipality, expressed concern about the park’s condition. “We aim to renovate it,” Mirhaj told 964media. He added that the municipality has repeatedly sought budget allocations for renovations. “If we do not receive the necessary funding, we will undertake the renovation ourselves,” he stated.

The park, located in the heart of Koya, spans about 3,000 square meters. It used to be a hub of activity, with local residents spending evenings enjoying its amenities. However, the lack of maintenance has left the park’s equipment in disrepair and its green spaces diminished, with many trees damaged or destroyed.
