Eighth case recorded

Two new cases of hemorrhagic fever in Erbil

ERBIL – Health officials in Erbil have confirmed two new cases of hemorrhagic fever, marking the third report of the disease in the city within a week.

The patients, both butchers, include a 32-year-old resident from the Sarkarez neighborhood and a 28-year-old from Qaretagha. Dr. Berivan Adnan, head of Erbil Health Protection, said, “Their tests came back positive, and they are currently receiving treatment.”

Dr. Sarkar Surchi, a spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region Ministry of Health, noted that the men are under medical supervision. “Both patients are men and work in the meat industry,” he informed.

Previously, on June 29, a 40-year-old man from Baghdad tested positive for hemorrhagic fever in Erbil. However, Dr. Surchi explained that this case is counted as part of Baghdad’s records, not those of the Kurdistan Region.

Including these new cases, the Kurdistan Region has now recorded eight cases of hemorrhagic fever: three in Erbil, two in Duhok, and three in Sulaymaniyah.
