Security threats 'receding'
Rise in organized crime reported in Iraq
BAGHDAD — Karim Al-Mohammedi, head of the Security and Defense Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, reported an increase in organized crime within the country.
“ISIS has lost all its military capabilities and field commanders, making it no longer a real threat to Iraq and its citizens,” Al-Mohammedi told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.
Al-Mohammedi called for heightened efforts from security and intelligence agencies to address the surge in organized crime and combat drug trafficking mafias, which he described as a threat as severe as terrorism.
“We in the Security and Defense Committee of the Parliament are in daily contact with security and military leaders to monitor the security situation throughout Iraq,” Al-Mohammedi said. He noted significant security stability, especially with reduced terrorist threats, and anticipated an upcoming phase of greater stability and a decrease in organized crime and drug trafficking.
