Air conditioning at Zakho Public Hospital out of order for tenth day
ZAKHO – The HVAC system at Zakho’s public hospital has been out of order for ten days, forcing patients’ relatives to bring fans and portable air conditioners from home.
The system stopped working due to an electrical short circuit, according to information obtained by 964media.
Zakho is a district in the Duhok governorate, near the Iraq-Turkey border.
Dr. Sirwan Ahmed, the hospital’s general manager, told 964media that a company is currently working on repairs, but the process has been delayed due to a lack of locally available parts.
“The necessary parts for repairing the air conditioning will be brought from outside the Kurdistan Region. We’re trying to solve the issue within two or three days,” Ahmed said.
The air conditioning failure comes as temperatures in the Kurdistan Region continue to rise with the approach of summer, causing concern for patients and their families.
Proper HVAC is crucial not only for cooling but also for ventilation to control airborne pathogens.
The 200-bed Zakho public hospital, built in 2012, is located in the city’s Bedar neighborhood, west of Zakho.
