Russia announces scholarships for Iraqi students

SULAYMANIYAH — Russian Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, Maxim Robin, revealed that Russia has allocated 300 educational scholarships for Iraqi students, with 70 earmarked specifically for those from Kurdistan. This announcement took place during the 8th Sulaimani Forum held at the American University of Sulaimani.

In an exclusive interview with 964media, Consul Robin underscored the multifaceted relationship between Russia and Iraq, emphasizing educational collaboration.

“Every year, we offer 300 scholarships to Iraqi students to encourage their pursuit of education in Russia. This initiative not only supports Iraq but also extends support to students from the Kurdistan Region, with 70 scholarships specifically being made available annually [to Kurdistan students],” explained Robin.

Regarding the application process, he clarified that any young individual who has completed high school education is eligible to apply for these scholarships. Applications can be submitted online at Scholarship.digital.gov.krd or directly through education-in-russia.com or by reaching out to the Consulate via email.

The scholarships cater to bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Eligible applicants must hold Iraqi citizenship, including those from the Kurdistan Region. For bachelor’s degree programs in medical specialties, a minimum high school average grade of 85 percent is required, while dentistry and pharmacy candidates need at least 80 percent, and engineering applicants are expected to have a minimum of 75 percent.

Master’s degree aspirants must have maintained an average grade of at least 65 percent in their bachelor’s studies, whereas doctoral candidates should have achieved a minimum average grade of 70 percent in their master’s degree. Those applying for master’s and doctoral programs must pursue a degree in their prior field of study. Additionally, individuals already employed or serving as educators must demonstrate at least two years of post-degree service.

Successful candidates who are employed by Iraqi government institutions, including those under the Kurdistan Regional Government, will be granted a study permit by their respective ministry. This permit will be accompanied by their regular salary and fixed allowances. Additionally, all selected candidates will receive financial support from Russia to fund their studies.
