'If we feel hunger, they'll feel it too'

Young man in Qaladiza feeds stary dogs daily

QALADIZA — Pshdar Qaladizay, a young animal enthusiast, has dedicated himself to feeding the area’s stray dogs. “If we humans can feel hunger, we must realize animals do too,” he said, expressing his empathy for the animals.

He regularly visits locations known to be inhabited by stray dogs to bring them food. “I constantly look for bread and food to feed the dogs,” he told 964media.

“Today, I gathered leftovers from chicken meals to feed them,” he shared, underscoring his daily efforts to provide for these animals.

Qaladiza is home to about 150 stray dogs, with many living around Husniyah hill. In a video clip, Qaladizay is seen distributing chicken leftovers to the dogs, including one that approaches limping, visibly injured and weakened from hunger.

Qaladizay has called on philanthropists and veterinarians to assist these dogs, many of whom suffer from health issues and malnutrition.

While he mostly undertakes this task alone, he noted that friends occasionally join him in helping the dogs.

Addressing the issue of dog attacks, which are sometimes reported, Qaladizay stated, “The cause of dogs lashing out is human. Just like a hungry person might act out of desperation, so does a hungry dog.”

Stray dogs have proliferated in recent years in the Kurdistan Region’s urban areas. In many places, their presence is becoming an increasingly prominent vector of local politics.
