Major fire erupts near Haditha Dam

HADITHA – A major fire erupted on Wednesday evening near the Haditha Dam in western Anbar province, prompting firefighting teams to swiftly respond to the scene to contain the situation.

Video footage obtained by 964media depicts flames soaring high, though the cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.

According to Haditha Civil Defense Director Colonel Ahmad Abd, the fire near the Haditha Dam was deliberately ignited “by unknown individuals,” resulting in the burning of a substantial area of dry reeds.

Colonel Abd stated, “We have not recorded any material or human damage thus far. Civil defense teams promptly initiated firefighting efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby orchards and successfully extinguished it a short while ago.”

The Haditha Dam is one of the largest dams in Iraq, constructed in the late 1970s by Soviet and Yugoslavian firms on the Euphrates River.
