Newlyweds receive complimentary plot
Land distribution tradition continues in Bardarash district’s village of Dolijan
BARDARASH – In Dolijan, a village within the Bardarash district, a unique tradition dating back to 1964 continues to thrive, wherein every young man who marries receives a 250-square-meter plot of land free of charge.
Zaid Mohammed, locally known as Sheikh Zaid, perpetuates this family tradition of distributing land at no cost, a practice deeply rooted in community goodwill.
In a discussion with 964media, Sheikh Zaid explained that this charitable gesture began with his family in 1964. “Since 2010, I’ve distributed 181 plots to community members and intend to keep this tradition alive. Originally, the village had 140 households, and with ongoing land distribution, we anticipate growing to 340 households,” he stated.
Initially exclusive to villagers, the program has expanded to include people from outside Dolijan, including former residents who have moved to areas such as Akre and Bardarash but wish to return.
Sheikh Zaid also noted a recent expansion in eligibility: “Now, we’re not just allocating land to newlyweds but also to families in need of more space due to cramped living conditions.”
