Ahead of Ramadan

Diwaniyah police arrest 23 traders for price manipulation

DIWANIYAH — The Diwaniyah Police Department’s organized crime unit has apprehended 23 individuals involved in the meat and poultry trade for price manipulation. These arrests were made in anticipation of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan to thwart potential exploitation by traders.

Local authorities have focused their efforts on shop owners, meat traders, and speculators involved in manipulating the prices of essential commodities to prevent any ‘undue’ inflation during the heightened demand for food items in Ramadan.

The Diwaniyah Police Department has pledged to take decisive action against anyone who seeks to manipulate the prices of basic necessities. It also urged citizens to collaborate with law enforcement units and report any instances of price gouging, enabling swift legal action against the offenders.
