Rusafa court reports nearly 5,000 domestic violence cases last year
BAGHDAD — The Rusafa Court in Baghdad disclosed on Wednesday that there were 210 reported suicides and approximately 5,000 instances of domestic violence against the elderly, women, and children in 2023.
In a statement, the Rusafa Appellate Court’s Presidency revealed that investigative courts documented 4,962 domestic violence cases last year, alongside 210 suicides and cases of human trafficking.
The Supreme Judicial Council’s Media Center indicated that the Rusafa investigative courts recorded 4,962 instances of violence targeting seniors, children, and women. Of these, 177 cases involved children, with September witnessing the highest monthly rate at 27 cases. There were 4,165 registered cases of violence against women, with August seeing the peak at 445 instances.
Moreover, the courts noted 620 cases of violence against the elderly, with December marking the highest monthly rate at 70 cases. Additionally, 40 suicide cases were documented, including 24 males and 16 females, alongside 171 cases of human trafficking, involving 94 males and 77 females, throughout 2023.
