Innovative student projects unveiled science festival in Rawanduz

RAWANDUZ—The third annual Science Festival, titled “Revealing the Students’ Skills and Talents,” at the private Zagros Institute in Rawanduz, showcased an array of tech projects and inventions by students.

Mustafa Khalid, an IT student at the institute, shared with 964media his development of glasses and a wristband designed to assist the visually impaired.

“This smart glasses and wristband system, equipped with sensors, alerts users to obstacles within a 50-centimeter radius, adjustable up to 200 centimeters. The glasses target obstacles at eye level, and the wristband identifies lower hazards, such as tables or rocks, ensuring comprehensive spatial awareness for the visually impaired,” he said.

Khalid noted that the device, which is powered by a 9-volt battery and includes a light sensor and a sound-alert mechanism, was programmed by him over a period of two weeks. He aims to bring the device to market as a commercial product, with further improvements to increase user-friendliness and minimize the visibility of wires.

Another student, from the accounting department, has developed a robotic hand that can mimic movements, designed for individuals without a hand. This prosthetic device, which can be worn on either arm, operates by mirroring the movements of the remaining hand, enabling the robotic hand to replicate the action.
