Locals threaten to slash tires

Residents in Mansour post warning signs amid parking crisis in the area

BAGHDAD, Auguat 23 — Homeowners in Baghdad’s popular Mansour district have resorted to putting up harsh warning signs to deter cars from parking in front of their properties.

Residents say the issue has reached a new high, particularly in recent days, with a local mall attracting customers from various parts of Baghdad.

As drivers disregard ‘No Parking’ signs, locals have escalated their tone, writing sharp messages on their doors, including threats to slash or deflate tires, or report violators to security forces.

Umm Sari, a resident of the neighborhood, told 964: “We have resorted to this method and placed barriers and obstacles to prevent cars from parking. It’s not acceptable for some car owners to park without any permission.”

“Most drivers come to the Mansour Mall and don’t want to pay for parking in the adjacent garage, so they look for any vacant spot on nearby streets to leave their cars,” she added.

Zulfiqar Hussein, another resident, explained: “Some might perceive these messages as a threat, but it’s a way of alerting others since we’ve been unable to prevent this situation, especially on streets close to the Al-Rawad and Abu Ja’far Al-Mansour intersections.”
