Authorities deny reports on dismissals

Classes resume in Penjwen after teacher strikes

PENJWEN – Following the Federal Court of Iraq’s verdict transfering Kurdistan Region public sector payroll to the federal government, dissatisfied teachers in the Penjwen district have ended their strikess and protests, returning to educational institutions.

Assad Jaffar, the Director of Penjwen’s Education Department, told 964media that classes in the Penjwen district resumed in full on Feb. 18, 2024, with teachers returning to their respective educational centers.

The Penjwen education department denies reports that any teachers expressing discontent have been dismissed.

Regarding last week’s announcement, which invited university graduates to visit the Penjwen Education Department, Jaffar clarified that some teachers were hired as lecturers for schools in need, but no one was replaced.

Meanwhile, the striking teachers gathered in front of the Penjwen Education Department today, announcing the end of their boycott and demonstrations.

Rebin Omar, a dissatisfied teacher, explained to 964media that their return to the educational centers was prompted by the federal court’s decision, emphasizing that this return does not mean they are abandoning their rights to employment and promotion.
