Kurdistan Region President meets U.S. congress delegation

MUNICH — The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, met with a delegation from the U.S. Congress led by Congressman Michael Turner on Sunday in Munich. The meeting underscored the United States’ view of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region as “vital allies and partners” in the region. The discussions revolved around Erbil-Baghdad relations and the latest developments in negotiations aimed at resolving outstanding issues.

According to a statement from the Kurdistan Region Presidency translated by 964media, the meeting took place on the third day of the Munich Security Conference. The talks covered U.S. relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the situation in Iraq, internal conditions within the Kurdistan Region, and the bilateral relations and ongoing discussions between Erbil and Baghdad to address various concerns.

The U.S. delegation expressed the American Congress’s continued support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, reaffirming the United States’ regard for both as crucial allies and partners in the region. President Barzani thanked the American Congress for its steadfast support of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
