Authorities foil repackaging scheme

Erbil security team seizes nearly 4,000 cartons of spoiled dates

ERBIL – In a joint operation, an Erbil security team and a committee from the local municipality seized 3,780 cartons of spoiled dates found stored in a warehouse, preventing their potential sale to unsuspecting consumers.

Authorities discovered a group of individuals inside the warehouse attempting to repackage the expired dates with new expiration labels for market distribution.

“Seizures of spoiled dates increase in frequency each year ahead of Ramadan,” warned Nabaz Abdulhamid, Erbil’s qaimaqam, speaking to 964media. “Measures have been taken against those responsible.”

Abdulhamid confirmed the perpetrators were local residents. All confiscated dates were disposed of to ensure they would not reach the market.
