Tal Afar man confesses to killing
Investigation unveils murder disguised as suicide
TEL AFAR — A specialized team from the Tal Afar Crime Prevention Department, in Nineveh province, revealed on Sunday that in coordination with the Ba’aj Police Directorate, they solved a murder case where a husband killed his wife and falsely claimed she had committed suicide over family disputes.
The investigative team, tasked with examining the incident, managed to uncover the truth and arrest the perpetrator within 12 hours of the crime being reported.
The husband, identified only by his initials H.R.Z. and aged 35, had been embroiled in ongoing family disputes with his wife, officials reported.
A credible security source told 964media, “We received a report of a supposed suicide at a residence in Mahmoudiya al-Ra’ad village, in the Ba’aj district west of Mosul. A task force was quickly formed and dispatched to interrogate the deceased woman’s relatives, a woman in her thirties, whose husband had alleged she took her own life.”
Despite the relatives’ claims, the investigative team pursued further inquiries, amassing evidence and thoroughly examining the scene. Faced with the evidence, the husband admitted to the murder, attributing it to family conflicts.
Legal proceedings were initiated against the husband, documenting his confessions in both preliminary and judicial procedures. He has been detained under Article 406 of the Penal Code, which stipulates the death penalty for anyone who wilfully kills another under specific circumstances, including premeditated murder, use of toxic substances or explosives, and killing for monetary gain or using brutal methods, among others.
