Maysan Provincial Council Elects New Governor

MAYSAN — The Maysan Provincial Council has chosen Habib Zaher Al-Fartousi as the governor of Maysan, in a decision made late Thursday into Friday. Al-Fartousi, affiliated with the Badr bloc within the “Nabni” coalition, steps into the role with background in local governance and a vision for the province’s future.

About Habib Zaher Al-Fartousi:

Born in 1979 in Al-Adl, Maysan governorate, Al-Fartousi is married with nine children. He holds a Bachelor of Islamic Sciences from the Imam Jafar Al-Sadiq College in Maysan, obtained in 2011. His political journey commenced with a successful run for the Badr bloc in the 2023 Provincial Council elections, where he secured the third position, garnering 7,543 votes.

Al-Fartousi’s career is marked by various local governance roles, including serving on the Al-Adl District Council from 2005 to 2013. Following this, he was appointed the director of Al-Adl District, a position he held from 2014 to 2024, in addition to leadership roles in Al-Khair District and as the mayor of Al-Majar Al-Kabir District.
