New lighting in Al-Adhamiya boosts visitor numbers and store sales

BAGHDAD, February 5 — New, decorative street lights in Baghdad’s Al-Adhamiya district are attracting visitors and shoppers, giving local businesses a boost in foot traffic and sales.

Saham Al-Mutawalli Street, renowned for its shops and bustling energy, connects Omar Bin Abdul Aziz Street with Street 20, leading to the main Al-Adhamiya’s Street.

Omar Al-Dulaimi, a worker in the area, told 964media, “The street already saw large groups of people, but the new lighting has drawn even more individuals to see the new changes, and shop at the commercial outlets; sales have gone up for sure.”

Al-Dulaimi said he hopes the new changes will lead to more attention to public works like electricity, water, and clean streets. In the past, things usually went back to the status quo after short-term projects, he explained.

A source from the local municipality, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told 964media that new lighting installations across Baghdad are part of an initiative to illuminate the city’s streets.

The municipality is said to be collaborating with the electricity directorate to show the city’s streets in the best possible light, with a focus on maintaining other services.
