Initiative started during the pandemic
Popular Baghdad restaurant offers free meals to those in need
BAGHDAD, September 5 — The popular Abu Mouloud restaurant in the Adhamiya area of Baghdad is providing free meals for those in need, with a small sign on the restaurant’s door that reads, “Free food for those who cannot afford it.”
The restaurant, owned by Hajj Muayad Mouloud, also known as Abu Mouloud, prominently displays this sign on its storefront to encourage those in need to request meals at no charge.
The owner of the restaurant expressed his happiness in offering assistance, especially to day laborers and the less fortunate.
Musaab Safaa, the restaurant’s manager, told 964: “The restaurant has been operating since 2004, and this initiative was launched by Hajj Muayad Mouloud, the restaurant owner, during the COVID-19 pandemic. He decided to continue it even after the pandemic to help those in need.”
“We provide rice and stews daily, at a price of 2,500 Iraqi dinars per person. We identify individuals in need from the residents of Adhamiya or the workers in the area, and we do not charge them for their meals,” he added.
