Three arrested in armed robbery, assault of elderly man in Baghdad’s Karkh district
BAGHDAD — Police in Baghdad’s Karkh district said Saturday they arrested three individuals accused of violently assaulting an elderly man and robbing him at gunpoint, following an investigation led by the Bayaa crime unit.
In a statement, the Karkh Directorate of Criminal Investigation said, “The Bayaa unit successfully apprehended a gang of three individuals who brutally assaulted an elderly man and stole a sum of money from him under threat of weapons.”
The incident prompted immediate intervention by Karkh Police Commander Maj. Gen. Adnan Hassan Hamad, who ordered the formation of a special investigative team. The investigation was conducted under the direct supervision of the Karkh Criminal Investigation director.
Authorities said the suspects were tracked through field surveillance and investigative work before being identified and detained. Legal procedures have been completed and the suspects remain in custody.
The directorate praised the “ongoing efforts and precise tracking of the suspects’ movements” and pledged to continue operations aimed at bringing criminal offenders to justice.
