Police refute foul play in Nigerian worker’s death, cite natural causes
BAGHDAD – The Rusafa Police Command in Baghdad on Tuesday clarified that the death of a Nigerian worker was due to natural causes, rejecting social media speculation of foul play.
“Some social media sites reported that a Nigerian worker was killed, but we would like to clarify that her death was natural and not a murder as has been circulated,” the command said in a statement.
Authorities called on the public and media to “exercise caution and accuracy in sharing information and avoid falling for false news, instead relying on official sources.”
The statement follows a report on Monday evening from a security source about the death of a Nigerian woman employed by a labor recruitment company in the Jadriya district of central Baghdad.
Foreign workers in Iraq, including those from Nigeria, often face difficult conditions, with challenges ranging from legal uncertainties to safety concerns.
