KRG salary payment expected next week

Iraq budget law under discussion

ERBIL, January 18 — Iraq’s budget law, now being discussed in the Council of Ministers, is slated to be sent to the Parliament by the end of this month, according to Narmin Ma’roof, a member of the Iraqi Parliament’s Finance Committee.

Ma’roof told 964media that the Finance Committee anticipates a three-week timeframe for Parliament’s approval of the budget amendment.

The budget amendment includes salaries of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) employees in order to “provide assurance of salary stability in the Kurdistan Region for the next two years,” according to Ma’roof.

The Iraqi government is expected to dispatch 618 billion dinars in the coming week to cover the January salaries of KRG employees, constituting the 12.67 percent share allocated to the region.

KRG Finance Minister Awat Sheikh Janab affirmed on Wednesday that officials have reached an agreement with Baghdad regarding the budget law amendment.
