Kurdistan Region records over seven million tourists in 2023

ERBIL, January 15 – More than seven million tourists visited the Kurdistan Region in 2023, representing a notable surge in arrivals and revenue, according to the region’s tourism board.

Amal Jalal, head of the tourism board, revealed figures at a press conference in Erbil, adding that some 7.28 million visitors from central and southern Iraq, Gulf countries, Asia, and Europe, visited the Kurdistan Region in the past year.

Among them, more than two million locals from within the Kurdistan Region visited the domestic tourist sites.

Jalal said investment in the region’s growing tourism sector jumped nearly 43 percent in 2023, and included over 55 new tourism projects at a cost of $7.3 billion.

Tourism revenues, as a result, saw a 17 percent increase compared to 2019, Jalal added.
