Villagers say pleas to the government went unanswered

Sulaymaniyah man constructs new bridge in Sekaniyan village

SULAYMANIYAH, January 3 — A resident of Sekaniyan village in Sulaymaniyah said he undertook the construction of a bridge on a nearby roadway, investing $15,000 in the project.

Azad Abdullah told 964 that villagers faced challenges each day as a result of road conditions in the area, emphasizing the need for improved accessibility for vehicles and residents.

His decision to build the bridge was prompted by repeated flooding that often cut off access to the road, as well as the dilapidated state of the existing bridge. The new structure measures over four meters long and three meters wide.

According to Abdullah, locals’ pleas for authorities to solve the issues with road infrastructure in the area had gone unanswered, leading him to self finance the project.
