Update: CTD says earlier explosion was a grenade not drone

The Counter Terrorism Department of the KRG clarified that the earlier explosion and the commotion it caused in a Qalati Nwe neighborhood in Erbil was actually a grenade explosion not a drone.

At at the onset of the incident, 964media made several attempts to contact security agencies for confirmation but to no avail. The confusion was palpable among the local residents, many of whom were convinced that the disturbance, loud enough to rattle doors and windows, was due to a drone.

Witnesses in the vicinity described the noise as overwhelming, leading to initial speculations about a drone. However, the Counter Terrorism Department’s subsequent announcement redirected the focus towards a grenade explosion.
