Iraqi Federal Supreme Court delays session on Kirkuk land dispute

KIRKUK, December 27 — Iraq’s Federal Supreme Court has postponed a previously-scheduled session to address a complaint by Kurdish and Turkmen farmers in Kirkuk. 

The complaint, filed by Kurdish and Turkmen farmers in Topzawa district, seeks to restore land ownership, which they claim was taken from them during Saddam Hussein’s regime.

Sources indicate that the court has summoned the director of Kirkuk’s Department of Agriculture as a witness for the next session, rescheduled for January 24, 2024.

The land in question spans approximately 13,000 dunam, with the Iraqi army aiming to convert parts of it into a military base and allocate some portions to Arab residents.
