Group stumbles in Baghdad and Basra

Hadi Al-Amiri-led coalition claims victory in five governorates

BAGHDAD, December 20 — Preliminary results from Iraq’s nationwide provincial council elections revealed the Nabni Coalition, under the leadership of Hadi Al-Amiri, secured over 600,000 votes, succeeding in five governorates.

Candidates won seats in Dhi Qar, Maysan, Babil, Diwaniyah, and Najaf governorates, but faced challenges in Baghdad and Basra.

In Basra, incumbent governor Asaad Al-Eidani’s list maintained a lead over other candidates, while in Baghdad, former Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi emerged victorious.

Data and figures from Monday’s provincial elections were released by the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC).

Dhi Qar: 73,238 votes

Maysan: 51,101 votes

Babil: 79, 611 votes

Diwaniyah: 54, 488 votes

Najaf: 42,099 votes

Baghdad: 131,869 votes

Basra: 112,034 votes

Muthanna: 38,411 votes

Karbala: 24,352 votes

Wasit: 31,124 votes

Total: 638,327 votes
