Over a hundred thousand people lost their vote in Kirkuk and Diyala

KIRKUK, December 18 – In the recent Kirkuk provincial council elections, about 65,000 eligible voters were unable to participate, primarily due to not having received their voting cards, according to the Independent High Electoral Commission.

The commission, in its statement, indicated that this significant number of citizens missed out on voting as they failed to collect their voting cards in time. Consequently, these individuals were unable to exercise their right to vote.

Similarly, in Diyala governorate, the commission reported that an additional 42,000 people were in the same situation, having not received their voting cards, and therefore unable to cast their votes.

The elections in Kirkuk, conducted today, had a total of 868,901 registered voters. The electoral race was marked by the participation of 254 candidates vying for 15 seats on the Kirkuk provincial council, including a designated quota seat for local minorities.

964 reporters say that technical difficulties with fingerprint recognition at polling stations have also prevented a notable number of citizens from voting, further impacting the overall voter turnout.
