Voter turnout reaches 17 percent in Dhi Qar before polls close

NASIRIYAH, December 18 — Voter turnout in Dhi Qar’s provincial council elections reached 17 percent just one hour before the close of polls, according to local election observers.

A final percentage of voter turnout is expected to be announced at 8:00 p.m., according to Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) officials in Dhi Qar.

Rizk Obeid, manager of the Tammuz Organization in Dhi Qar, told 964, “The percentage [of voters] has increased in the last hours and reached about 17 percent by 5:00 p.m., which is considered good compared to the participation rate in the rest of the governorates.”
