Erbil and Baghdad to collaborate on managing internal borders
KRG delegation signs deal with Baghdad ministers on border management
BAGHDAD, December 13 — A delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has signed a memorandum of understanding concerning the management of the KRG’s border gates with the central government’s interior and finance ministers.
The KRG delegation advocated for amendments to the Border Gates Law No. 30 of 2016 during the meetings, proposing a collaborative effort between the KRG and the federal government. The collaboration would aim to address legal, administrative, and constitutional aspects of border gate management.
Iraq’s Council of Ministers made the decision to establish a joint committee on November 21 of this year to be tasked with resolving customs-related issues.
Notably, one of the key requests put forth by the KRG delegation was the recognition of unofficial border gates.
