Group releases statement confirming attack

Militant group in Iraq targets U.S. forces at Ain al-Asad base in Anbar

BAGHDAD, December 6 — A group calling itself the Islamic Resistance in Iraq announced it targeted United States military forces at Ain Al-Asad base in Anbar with a drone.

The group released a statement which said:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

‘Permission [to fight] has been given to those who are being fought because they were wronged, and indeed Allah is capable of granting them victory.’

In response to the crimes committed by the enemy against our people in Gaza, the fighters of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted the Ain Al-Asad military base, which hosts American forces in western Iraq, with a drone, hitting its target directly.

‘Victory is only from Allah. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.’
