Maysan criminal court sentences drug trafficker to death by hanging

MAYSAN, November 28 — The Maysan Criminal Court issued a death sentence to a convicted drug trafficker on Tuesday.

A statement from the judiciary’s press office read:

The court sentenced an individual to capital punishment for his involvement in drug trafficking. The correspondent of the Supreme Judicial Council’s Media Center reported that the trafficker was caught with over 19 kilograms of narcotics and had imported the drugs into Iraq for distribution within the country. The verdict was based on the provisions of Article 27 of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017.
