Firefighters contain large blaze at Najaf commercial building

NAJAF — More than 10 civil defense teams contained a large fire that broke out Thursday at a commercial building in Najaf’s industrial district, keeping it from spreading to nearby warehouses, officials said.

Ali Tuwaij, media director at the Civil Defense Directorate, told 964media that firefighting units were sent as soon as reports came in of the blaze, which engulfed a two-story building. It was brought under control without any injuries, he said, though it damaged several vehicles parked in the area.

Firefighters kept cooling the site after the flames were out, while a forensic team opened an inquiry into the cause.
