Man killed by lightning strike while herding livestock near Said Sadiq
SULAYMANIYAH — A 44-year-old man died after being struck by lightning while herding livestock on Mount Glezarda near Said Sadiq district, Sulaymaniyah, a hospital official told 964media Sunday.
Barzan Khalid of Shahid Shawkat Hospital said the man was married and died immediately from the strike. His body was transferred to the forensic department in Sulaymaniyah.
Lightning strikes have caused multiple deaths across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in recent years. A 14-year-old boy died in May 2025 after being struck in the countryside of Penjwen district. In June 2024, a 36-year-old Bedouin woman was killed near Tel Al-Lahm in Dhi Qar, and a 14-year-old shepherd died the same month near the village of Qori Chai in Garmiyan’s Kifri area.
