Masked members of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces march with factional and national flags during a parade in Baghdad
Airstrike kills one PMF fighter, wounds two in Nineveh Plain
NINEVEH — An airstrike killed one Popular Mobilization Forces fighter and wounded two others in the Nineveh Plain on Thursday, the PMF said, attributing the strike to a joint U.S.-Israeli operation.
The PMF said the 4th Regiment of the 30th Brigade was targeted in what it called “a treacherous joint Zionist-American airstrike.” Neither Israel nor the United States has publicly claimed responsibility for any of the strikes on PMF positions in Iraq.
The strike is the latest in a sustained wave of hits on PMF positions since the regional war began Feb. 28. Six fighters were killed and four wounded Monday in Qaim district, Anbar. Kataib Hezbollah announced the death of its security chief Abu Ali al-Askari earlier this week. The PMF says airstrikes have now hit its positions across seven governorates, killing dozens of fighters.
Many of the targeted groups belong to the Islamic Resistance in Iraq umbrella — including Kataib Hezbollah, Asaib Ahl al-Haq, Kataib Imam Ali and Harakat al-Nujaba — and have claimed responsibility for drone and rocket attacks on alleged U.S.-linked targets while remaining formally incorporated into the PMF.
