IRGC launches drone attacks on Iranian Kurdish opposition camps in Koya

KOYA — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched drone attacks Sunday evening on camps belonging to Iranian Kurdish opposition parties in Koya district, Erbil, with local officials reporting explosions near Camp Azadi, according to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.

Hengaw said the IRGC launched “simultaneous drone attacks” on bases belonging to the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, the Kurdistan Freedom Party and the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan. “According to information obtained by Hengaw, all of the attacks were thwarted and no casualties were reported,” the organization said.

In a separate statement, Hengaw said the IRGC used two suicide drones in a strike on a Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan camp in Koya specifically.

A security source in Koya told 964media that “an explosion was heard near Camp Azadi” — a camp housing Kurds from Kurdish areas of Iran — adding that preliminary information indicated a drone had fallen and no damage was reported.

The attacks came on the same evening that a pro-Iran Iraqi militia claimed responsibility for a drone strike on Erbil Air Base near Erbil International Airport, with explosions heard across much of the city and fire visible near the airport.
