Islamic Resistance in Iraq claims ‘dozens’ of drone strikes on US bases in Iraq and region

BAGHDAD — The Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed Saturday it carried out 16 drone operations targeting U.S. bases in Iraq and the region, without specifying locations.

There was no immediate confirmation from Iraqi or U.S. authorities.

“The mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq carried out today sixteen operations in which dozens of drones were used against enemy bases in Iraq and the region,” the group said, adding that details would follow.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq is an umbrella label used by a network of Iran-aligned Iraqi armed factions, including Kataib Hezbollah and Harakat al-Nujaba. The name has been used to claim attacks against U.S. military targets in Iraq and the region since late 2023.

The claims follow a day in which Iraq was struck from multiple directions. U.S. and Israeli strikes hit sites inside Iran, including Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, Karaj and Kermanshah. In Iraq, Jurf al-Nasr in Babil — a base hosting Kataib Hezbollah and other PMF factions — was struck twice by unattributed airstrikes, killing two fighters and wounding three.
