Najaf court sentences three drug traffickers to life in prison

NAJAF — The Najaf Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced three convicted drug traffickers to life imprisonment after they were found in possession of 500 grams of methamphetamine intended for sale and distribution, according to the Supreme Judicial Council.

In a statement received by 964media, the council’s media office said, “The Najaf Criminal Court issued life imprisonment sentences against three drug traffickers for the crime of trading in narcotic substances.”

It added that the convicts were arrested with “500 grams of the narcotic substance methamphetamine in their possession with the intent to trade and sell it among users, in addition to drug-use tools and an electronic scale.”

The statement said the rulings were issued under Article 27/First of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017.
