Son fatally stabs university professor father in Najaf, later dies by suicide
NAJAF — Najaf Police Command announced Monday that a young man fatally stabbed his father, a university professor, inside their home in the governorate before later taking his own life in a separate incident the same night.
In a statement, police said that “upon receiving a report through the emergency number (911), rescue patrols and the concerned police station, accompanied by detachments from the Criminal Investigation Division, rushed to the scene.”
The statement added that “upon arrival, the body of a university professor was found inside his home. He had died after being stabbed multiple times, and initial information indicates that the incident occurred last night, while the body was discovered today.”
It continued, “After reviewing surveillance cameras and collecting information, it became clear that the perpetrator was his son, who committed suicide in a separate incident during the night.”
Najaf Police said that “forensic evidence teams are continuing their technical procedures in accordance with legal protocols.”
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the crime.
