One dead after consuming poisonous mushrooms near Sulaymaniyah
SULAYMANIYAH — One person died after consuming poisonous mushrooms in the Sharbazher area, a health source told 964media on Saturday.
The victim had spent the previous night in a garden with several others. After eating the mushrooms, one of the four people died and another received medical treatment.
Sulaymaniyah police spokesperson Raid Ari confirmed the incident. “We were informed of the incident this morning and are awaiting the medical report to determine the final cause,” he told 964media.
Food poisoning incidents have been reported across Iraq in recent months. In January, about 75 cases of suspected poisoning were reported in southern Baghdad after residents consumed a donated meal in Yusufiya. In October, more than 50 people were treated in Wasit’s Numaniyah district after suspected poisoning linked to a local cafeteria.
In September, 29 people were treated in Baqubah after eating at a newly opened restaurant. In August, more than 120 were hospitalized in Duhok. In June, more than 200 received treatment in Fallujah over two days after consuming food from a street vendor.
