Variable conditions to bring rain, dust across Iraq through weekend

BAGHDAD — Iraq faces variable weather over the coming days, with periods of cloud cover, scattered rainfall and dust in some regions, the General Authority for Meteorology said Friday.

A low-pressure system is bringing light to heavy rain across parts of the country, with possible thunderstorms in northern areas. Dust and reduced visibility are expected before conditions stabilize by mid-next week.

Friday will be partly cloudy, becoming cloudy, with light to moderate rain in scattered areas.

Temperatures will remain close to Thursday’s levels in central regions, rising 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the north and south.

Winds will be southeasterly at 10 to 20 kilometers per hour, occasionally reaching 35 kilometers per hour in western areas and raising light to moderate dust in desert regions.

Visibility is forecast at 8 to 10 kilometers, dropping to 5 to 7 kilometers in the morning due to haze and 4 to 6 kilometers in dusty areas.
