Rain and snow forecast as cold weather intensifies
BAGHDAD — Iraq entered a period of unstable weather conditions starting Thursday, with varying intensities of rainfall and snow expected, particularly in the Kurdistan Region. The changes come amid a drop in temperatures across most areas, with cold to very cold conditions expected at night and during early morning hours.
According to a forecast report, the country is under the influence of a low-pressure system bringing widespread cloud cover and a chance of light to moderate rainfall in western regions by evening. These showers are expected to extend overnight into other parts of the country, excluding the eastern areas.
Snowfall is anticipated not only in mountainous areas but also across lower-lying regions and city centers in Kurdistan. Daytime temperatures are forecast to remain close to those recorded the previous day, while night and early morning conditions will be markedly colder.
Winds will be light and variable in direction, with speeds ranging between 5 and 10 kilometers per hour, shifting to a southeasterly direction at 10 to 20 kilometers per hour in western regions. Horizontal visibility is expected to range from 8 to 10 kilometers but may decline to between 5 and 7 kilometers during the morning hours due to haze.
