Kirkuk suspends classes for two days due to cold weather

KIRKUK — Authorities in Kirkuk have announced a two-day suspension of classes across all educational institutions due to severe and unstable weather conditions. The break applies to Tuesday, Dec. 30, and Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025.

The decision was issued by Governor Rebwar Taha and confirmed in an official statement. The suspension affects all kindergartens, primary, intermediate, and secondary schools throughout the governorate.

While official New Year holidays in Iraq typically include only Jan. 1, Kirkuk’s suspension precedes this with two additional days off. In the Kurdistan Region, the official New Year holiday began last Thursday and continues through Jan. 3, 2026.

The statement clarified that the decision applies solely to the education sector and does not include government departments and offices.
