Foggy mornings, cloudy skies expected across Iraq

BAGHDAD — Iraq is expected to see partly cloudy weather turning cloudy in the northern governorates on Monday, with moderate to dense fog forming during the morning hours across wide areas of central and southern regions before clearing by midday, the General Authority for Meteorology said.

In its daily forecast, the authority said temperatures will be “close to those recorded yesterday across all regions,” with conditions “cold to very cold during the morning and night and cold during the daytime.” Winds are expected to be “southeasterly, light to moderate in speed,” ranging between 10 and 20 kilometers per hour.

Horizontal visibility will range between 8 and 10 kilometers, but will deteriorate in the morning due to haze to between 5 and 7 kilometers, and in foggy areas to less than 1 kilometer, before gradually improving.

For Tuesday, the authority forecast weather “partly cloudy to cloudy with a chance of light rain showers in scattered parts of the central and northern regions,” with morning fog forming in some areas and clearing gradually. Temperatures are expected to remain similar, with southeasterly winds continuing at light to moderate speed.

On Wednesday, conditions are expected to be “partly cloudy and sometimes cloudy,” with a chance of rain showers in scattered areas of the country. Morning fog may form in some locations before dissipating, while winds will shift to northwesterly and remain light to moderate. Temperatures will stay close to previous readings.

The forecast for Thursday calls for “partly cloudy to cloudy” weather, with a chance of light rain showers in the southern region, along with morning fog that clears gradually. Winds will remain northwesterly and light to moderate, with little change in temperatures.

By Friday, the authority expects “partly cloudy” conditions, with morning fog forming in scattered areas before clearing. Temperatures are forecast to drop slightly across the country, with northwesterly winds continuing at light to moderate speed.
