KRG Peshmerga Ministry forms committee after employee alleges abduction in Erbil
ERBIL — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs said it has formed an investigative committee into an incident involving the alleged abduction of a media worker employed by the ministry.
In a statement dated Dec. 20, the ministry said the incident occurred on the night of Dec. 19–20, 2025, and involved Miran Bakr Abdulrahman, a ministry employee who previously served as media secretary to the Peshmerga minister.
“First, we strongly condemn this unacceptable incident that targeted a ministry employee,” the statement said. “The ministry immediately formed an investigative committee to follow up and clarify the details of this incident.”
The ministry said Abdulrahman left the media secretary post two years ago and does not currently hold that position.
Abdulrahman alleged in a Facebook post that he was abducted late Friday near the political office of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in Erbil.
“A thug and criminal force, at 11:30 p.m., near the PUK political office in Erbil, put a black bag over my head and handcuffed me, then beat me with kicks and punches for three hours,” he wrote. “They took everything inside my car, then said: ‘We made a mistake.’”
He said he was later released in another location after being told the abduction was an error.
The ministry said the investigation is ongoing and did not provide further details.
