Kirkuk suspends public working hours due to heavy rainfall

KIRKUK — Kirkuk governorate announced the suspension of public working hours for all schools, colleges, and government offices on Thursday due to heavy rainfall.

Governor Rebwar Taha issued the directive, stating, “Due to the bad weather conditions, we have directed the suspension of official working hours in government departments, schools, and colleges.”

The governorate confirmed that public service efforts will continue, with the crisis and disaster response cell maintaining its operations throughout the city.

Recent storms have already caused deadly flooding across the Kurdistan Region. On Tuesday, two people were killed and 12 injured in Chamchamal district, where authorities reported damage to more than 500 houses.

In Kirkuk governorate, a nine-year-old girl died after being swept away by floodwaters in Farqani village. Sulaymaniyah city recorded 122.7 millimeters of rain in the past 24 hours, bringing the season’s total to 258.7 millimeters.
